Paramount announces cast for Hercules


Paramount Pictures and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios have announced an impressive cast to join Dwayne Johnson in the production of Hercules due to shoot next year.

The lineup includes Ian McShane (“Deadwood,” PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: ON STRANGER TIDES), Rufus Sewell (ABRAHAM LINCOLN: VAMPIRE HUNTER), Joseph Fiennes (SHAKESPEARE IN LOVE, “American Horror Story”), Rebecca Ferguson (The BBC’s “The White Queen”), Aksel Hennie (HEADHUNTERS) and Academy Award®-nominee John Hurt (IMMORTALS, HARRY POTTER AND THE DEATHLY HALLOWS).


Orthodox starring Stephen Graham to Begin Shooting

Stephen Graham (Boardwalk Empire, This is England) will star in Orthodox which is due to start shooting on 31st March.

Filming will be in and around Newcastle as work on the feature borne of the original short film of the same name written and directed by David Leon, which premiered at the London Film Festival in 2012. Around 70% of the footage from the original short will feature in the finished film and all original cast remain attached to the project.

Winners of 2013 First Light Awards announced


The winners of the First Light Awards 2013 have been announced following the young film makers from a variety of social backgrounds, including those with refugee status, young offenders and those from deprived areas, walked the red carpet alongside famous faces such as Olivia Williams, Rafe Spall, Joely Richardson and Edgar Wright.


Jane Got a Gun gets new director but loses Jude Law


Following Director Lynne Ramsay not showing up to the first day of scheduled shooting for the new movie Jane Got a Gun,it is now reported that star, Jude Law, who replaced original cast member Michael Fassbender has now left the film too.

Gavin O’Connor who directed MMA fight movie Warrior is now at the helm of the movie, which stars Natalie Portman in the lead role.

It seems this western movie has got off to a rocky start but we are hoping the troubles surrounding it disappear into the sunset soon.

Sequel confirmed for Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters



After taking over $200 million worldwide and topping the box office in 39 countries the studio behind Hansel & Gretel: Witch hunters today confirmed that a sequel was going into production.


Programme announced for London’s Sundance Film Festival 2013


The Sundance Institute and The O2 have today announced the programme of panels, feature films and short films for the second Sundance London film and music festival, which runs 25-28 April at The O2, London.

Sundance Film Festival is annually presented in Park City, Utah, U.S.A., and the same panel selected the film and panel programming for the London leg of the festival. The 2013 programme continues its 2012 focus on presenting new work by independent filmmakers and exploring the interplay between independent film and music.

The programme announced today includes 18 feature films and nine short films across four sections, including a new UK Spotlight. Twenty-three films will make their international, European or UK premieres at Sundance London. Ten are by female filmmakers and six are by first-time feature filmmakers. The films collectively received 12 awards when they premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah, U.S.A.. Among the artists expected to attend Sundance London are Lake Bell, Mike Birbiglia, Jimmy Carr, the Eagles, Barbara Kopple and Peaches, as well as Sundance Institute President & Founder Robert Redford.

The line-up includes 3 UK premiers for In Fear (Directed and story by: Jeremy Lovering), The Look of Love (Director: Michael Winterbottom, Screenwriter: Matt Greenhalgh) and The Moo Man (Directors: Andy Heathcote, Co-director: Heike Bachelier)

Feature films in the lineup include Blackfish (Director: Gabriela Cowperthwaite) The Kings of Summer (Director: Jordan Vogt-Roberts, Screenwriter: Chris Galletta, In a World… (Director and screenwriter: Lake Bell) Running from Crazy (Director: Barbara Kopple) and Upstream Color (Director and screenwriter: Shane Carruth)

Short films include The Apocalypse (Director and screenwriter: Andrew Zuchero), Black Metal (Director and screenwriter: Kat Candler), The Date (Director and screenwriter: Jenni Toivoniemi), Until the Quiet Comes (Director and screenwriter: Kahlil Joseph) and The Whistle (Director: Grzegorz Zariczny)

Princess Bride re-released on Blu-ray

Cinema Made in Italy 2013: Italian Film Festival


A completely unique opportunity to experience cutting edge Italian cinema is on its way to London between 6th – 10 th March 2013 at Ciné Lumière in South Kensington. It is the third year now that this annual celebration of Italian filmmaking has been staged and offers a five-day showcase event of the latest and best Italian productions. The Sundance Film Festival has announced it’s first headliner for the second Sundance Film and Music Festival.

Held at the 02 from 25th – 28th April the 2013 programme will continue its 2012 focus on presenting new work by American filmmakers and music artists. Sundance Institute, which annually presents the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah, U.S.A, will select the films and related programming.

Ed Byrne to Host the Jameson Empire Film awards



Irish funny man Ed Byrne has been named as the host for this year’s Jameson Empire Film Awards.

Making his debut as host the comedian will take to the stage along with stars of the silver screen on March 24th.

The full list of nominees will be announced following the voting closing on March 1st. 

Selected entirely by a voting public the nominees will celebrate the years cinematic achievements  in London with the star of Mock the Week and Have I Got News for You.
