“The Last Scout” Has been written by ‘White Collar Hooligan’ Paul Tanter and has Simon Phillips taking on the directors duties. This latest film see both Tanter and Phillips breaking away from the british crime scene that they are best known for and into the Sci-Fi genre.
The film is a futuristic story of a crew of astronauts searching for a new home for humanity after Earth has been devastated by a nuclear war between the East and the West.
Both writer and director describe themselves as sci-fi geeks and state that the film will be combining the best elements of “Sunshine” and “Battlestar Gallactica.
Due for release in May 2014, this will be one to look out for.
Only God Forgives, which sees the director reunite with Ryan Gosling, is set in Bangkok and surrounds Julian (Gosling), the owner of a Thai boxing club which is a front for his drug dealing. Despite being successful and well respected in the criminal underworld his world is turned upside down when the police kill his brother and he is despatched by his mother, Jenna (Scott-Thomas) to see revenge. When his Angel of Vengeance fueled mission does not go his way Jenna begins a ferocious attempt to set things straight.
Robert Rodriguez (Sin City, Machete) presents Curandero: Dawn of the Demon, an action-packed horror flick that takes a couple on a horrifying journey through the deepest bowels of the Mexican underworld. When beautiful federal agent Magdalena calls upon Curandero Carlos (Carlos Gallardo – El Mariachi, Grindhouse) for his services to purify a police station, the two of them suddenly find themselves immersed in a satanic cult’s bloodthirsty battleground.
Released on DVD on 20th May 2013.
Only God Forgives has been described as a modern ‘East meets West’ gritty revenge tale. ‘Only God Forgives’ stars Ryan Gosling, who is once again reunited with ‘Drive’ director Nicolas Winding Refn and also features Kirsten Scott Thomas and Tom Burke who complete the key cast. Gosling plays the son of a Florida-based crime syndicate boss (Kristen Scott Thomas), who is plying the drug trade in Thailand with his brother.
Spring Breakers features Brit, Candy, Cotty and Faith, who are all college girls looking for adventure away from their college dorms. In an audacious attempt to try and fund their spring break vacation in Florida, they land themselves in jail after attempting an armed robbery on a local fast-food restaurant. However, they soon find themselves being bailed out by a drug and arms dealer called Alien in exchange for some dirty work that leads to a spring break they will never forget.
With a cast that boasts Vanessa Hudgens, Selena Gomez, Ashley Benson and Rachel Kroine and a marketing campaign that has seen them all in little more than their bikinis, don’t be fooled into thinking that this is going to be another one of those summer teen movies. For this is a Harmony Korine movie. Known for his unconventional, non-linear, weird and often outrageous but refreshing filmmaking (Gummo 1997), ensures that there will be more than what first meets the eye in Spring Breakers. Certain to explore morals, pop culture, dreams, reality and religion and with an 18 certificate ensures that there is likely to be plenty of violence and exploitation making it certainly not one for the Disney crowd.
An impressive cast that seem to be looking to shake off that ‘High School Musical’ tag as well as James Franco cast as a class A corn-rowed drug dealer only makes the plot that much more mouth-watering. The cinematography appears to be drenched in a super cool neon pallet and with what is shaping up to be a blistering ultra slick soundtrack, I for one will be really looking forward to Spring Breakers.
Due for release in the UK on 05/04/2013.
