Ben Affleck has been announced by Warner Bros as their new Batman to star alongside Henry Cavill in the unnamed ‘Batman vs Superman’ film directed by Zack Snyder.
Warner Bros President Greg Silverman quoted in a statement:
“We knew we needed an extraordinary actor to take on one of DC Comics’ most enduringly popular super heroes, and Ben Affleck certainly fits that bill and then some,”
While we’re massive Argo fans here at Movie Emporium, we remain a little sceptical after the deathly serious portrayal we’ve become accustomed to (from Christian Bale) and hope that Ben avoids the pitfalls of the suave/comical take encountered by his good friend George Clooney in 1997′s truly awful Batman & Robin (averages 3.6 on IMDB).
Will there be room for a beard under that cowl? – We hope so!
These clips just get scarier and scarier as they play on the human sense of helplessness. You’ll be heart-in-mouth the whole way through this film – guaranteed to leave you breathless.
Strewn amongst the global ramblings of ‘Jar Jar’ Abrams’ domination of the Sci Fi genre, is a teaser trailer. A teaser trailer unassumingly beautiful and assertively tender. It’s the latest from Children of Men (2006) director Alfonso Cuarón. Gravity (2013).
Before the first 15 seconds are out I was convinced we were being treated to the next sci-fi classic. Reminiscent of Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968), Coarón seems to handle detail with the same obsessive adoration. Despite the quick cut nature of a trailer, this 90 second teaser cleverly communicate the extremely long takes Coarón will be including in his film, the intro rumoured to exceed 17 minutes.
Anyway, this is all before the classic trailer shift where the action really kicks off. However, where they would normally cram in 2 seconds from every scene in the film, including boss showdowns, twists, turns and any other kind of spoiler, Gravity doesn’t. Yes explosion happen, but they need to. What we see next perfectly sets up the premise of the film. A leisurely stroll on the flight deck turns to disaster when wandering space debris goes astray and obliterates their shuttle. This leaves the wonderful George Clooney and Sandra Bullock (for want of a better phrase) lost in spaaaaace. Badoom!
In summary, I think this is one of the best trailers in the universe, it definitely left me wanting more. If I may be so bold, I think we have another Sci Fi hall of famer written in the stars.
And in answer to your question George… yes. I do think it’s beautiful.
