Despicable Me 2 Review
Gru and his loveable minions are back in Despicable Me 2, a film which is as charming as it is funny.
After turning over his new leaf in Despicable Me Gru is now the model father, looking after his 3 daughters and investing his energies into positive activities, but when he is called upon by the AVL (Anti Villain League) to help conquer a dangerous new criminal he inadvertently tackles a whole new area of life.
Juggling his life as a father, his new job and some very new emotions Gru relies more than ever on his minions to help him tackle his ever complicated life.
The range of characters, including the side characters are phenomenal, all are captivating and amusing, complimenting and balancing each other well. The baddies hint at sinister but do it with comedy, perfect for young film goers that this flick is aimed at.
The world in which Despicable Me is set is a thing of wonder, the animation bringing out the fantasy in everything making it a bigger, bolder, brighter and more beautiful world.
The minions are, aside from all else that is great in this film, once again loveable and hilarious. Every time they feature they light up the screen and prompt giggles, their mid credit antics especially notable for the brilliant use of 3D that will thrill young film fans.
Steve Carrell brings Gru to life spectacularly well, portraying a sense of wonder and innocence in his voice over. Kristen Wiig is the perfect accompaniment to this with her hyper and loveable portrayal of Lucy.
A thoroughly enjoyable film from start to finish Despicable Me 2 is a must watch for any fan of the original or indeed any newcomer who just wants a funny and wonderful film!
