Nicholas Winding Refn’s hotly anticipated Only God Forgives will screen in competition at Cannes Film Festival.

The film, which stars Kristin Scott Thomas and Vithaya Pansringarm alongside Ryan Gosling, is due for release in the UK in the summer of 2013 but will screen first, in competition, at the iconic film festival.

Only God Forgives, which sees the director reunite with Ryan Gosling, is set in Bangkok and surrounds Julian (Gosling), the owner of a Thai boxing club which is a front for his drug dealing. Despite being successful and well respected in the criminal underworld his world is turned upside down when the police kill his brother and he is despatched by his mother, Jenna (Scott-Thomas) to see revenge. When his Angel of Vengeance fueled mission does not go his way Jenna begins a ferocious attempt to set things straight.
